Landon's ER visits...

Landon at Children's Hospital. Can you tell he doesn't feel well?

Getting a hour long Albuterol treatment. He cried through most of it. This was also hard for mama and dada. :(

I realized that I haven't blogged about Landon's ER visits.

July 26th was Landon's first ER visit. Hugh and I woke up around 7am and realized that Landon had slept straight through the night. We were shocked because he normally wakes up around 5am and wants a bottle. I looked in the monitor and saw him laying there awake. I went in picked him up and went into the living room to change his diaper. As I unzipped his pj's I looked at his chest and it looked like he was struggling to breath. He was breathing really rapidly and was just laying there looking at me. I quickly picked him up and rushed him in our room where Hugh was. I told him,"I think he is having a hard time breathing we need to go to the ER!" I started to panic. I was really scared. Landon wasn't making much noise and was just laying around. Hugh had to calm me down. Thank goodness my sister in law, Emily, and my brother in law, Steve live down stairs. Hugh ran down woke them up and asked them to care for Caiden while we went to the ER. I also called my sister Jamie to come and help them.

When we got to the ER, at Stevens Hospital, there was no wait. They checked his oxygen level and it was low he wasn't getting enough. I should add that Landon had a cold for the last couple of days. So he ended up needing 4 nebulizer treatments and a steroid. We spent half of the day in the ER. Hugh and I weren't quite ready to bring him home yet. They kept wanting to discharge us but we felt like Landon still wasn't breathing normally. They had informed us that he may still wheeze a bit but as long as he is active it means he is getting enough oxygen. They diagnosed him with Brochialitis, which basically means respiratory distress. They sent us home with instructions to nebulize him every 4 hours even through the night until we visit his pediatrician.

That night I set my alarm to check on him every 2 hours. I was so worried that he would start to wheeze again. We saw his Dr the next day. He told us to continue to nebulize him for the next 2 weeks every 4 hrs except for at night, we could let him sleep. He hated to be nebulized at first but quickly got used to it.

After this incident I am always paranoid when Landon gets sick. I make sure to keep a close eye on him to make sure he is breathing well. There has been 2 colds since this incident that I have had to nebulize him for slight wheezing. Then came the evening of December 13th...

Landon had another bad cold and started coughing. When he starts coughing is usually when he starts to wheeze. So I kept a close eye on him that day. Late afternoon I noticed he started to wheeze, so I gave him a nebulizer treatment and it seemed to help. But after only 3 hours he needed another treatment. After that treatment I put him to bed. Hugh and I checked on him and noticed he was breathing rapidly for someone who is asleep. So I woke him up, gave the monitor to Steve and Emily, so they could watch Caiden, and decided to bring him to the ER again. This time we brought him to Children's Hospital.

When we arrived at Children's it was about 11:00pm. The nurses checked his oxygen levels. He was getting enough but as they put it, "Fighting hard for it." They ended up having to give him a very strong albuterol treatment. The Dr informed us that it was a higher dose then most adults received. He had to keep a mask on for a hour long, which I should add was quite a challenge. Landon screamed for about the first 30 minutes of the treatment because we had to hold the mask on his face. We finally got him to settle down and he watched, Finding Nemo, for the last 30 minutes. Landon also had to receive another steroid. This visit was especially difficult because every time a Dr walked into the room Landon would FREAK out! Its no secret that Landon is extremely attached to Hugh and I. He has quite a fear of strangers so the hospital visit was especially difficult for him and his personality. The Dr actually informed me that they haven't had a child freak out like he did in a long time...thanks doc! :) I don't blame Landon for being afraid though, the Dr's came in the room with face masks on that would have scared me too. Poor little guy! We finally were able to go home at 3:00am. We were EXHAUSTED to say the least. Landon was awake the entire time. Hugh and I got home and went to sleep and got a total of 2 hours before Caiden was up. Landon had a total of 6 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. He was such a little trooper and surprisingly wasn't very cranky the next day, wish I could say the same about myself! :) This time the hospital gave us a inhaler to use, which makes things much quicker. The inhaler has a mask on one end that I put on Landon's head. I push the inhaler, the medicine goes in a chamber that is connected to the mask and he inhales all the medicine. Its great and super easy!

We had a follow up with his Dr. I asked if Landon has asthma and he informed me its hard to say and you really can't test babies at his age. We basically have to wait and see if this continues with every cold. They also informed us that there are many babies that will get respiratory distress when they get sick and in a few years it just goes away and is never a issue again. So we really don't know at this point. It is still stressful on us every time he gets sick. Every night when I put Landon to bed I pray for him and ask God to heal his little body. I pray he doesn't have Asthma and that there will be no more ER visits.

We love you Landon!

Caiden is two!

Caiden turned two on November 28th. We had a Sesame Street themed party for him. We served pizza (his favorite) and fruit. He had a great time at his party. There was a lot of kids at his party he had so much fun running around and playing with them. I think his favorite part of the party was getting sung to. He loves music and when everyone started to sing to him he got a huge smile across his face. He was also pretty excited about "Happy Cake" what he likes to call it! I cant believe we have a two year old. I still remember the day we brought him home and now he is running, jumping, and talking. Caiden is such a joy and so fun to talk to. He loves to show Landon things and gets frustrated when Landon doesn't listen to him. He has his moments with Landon but he is a good big brother.

Caiden had is two year appt and here is his stats: weight 34.6 lbs (97% with clothes on), height 36.75 inches (95%), head 51 cm (95%). Caiden is a big boy! He is super tall! People are always asking if he is three years old.

Here are some facts about Caiden:

-He is currently in 2t-3t clothing and is a size 7-8 shoe.

-He has 16 teeth, he hasn't got his two year molars yet.

-His hair is SUPER curly. I am happy that after many haircuts his hair is still curly. Looks like its for life. We love it!

-His favorite toys are: Cars and trucks, plastic animals, balls and trains.

-He loves books, just like his mama.

-His favorite foods are: Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries (ok he LOVES every berry actually he loves fruit), cheese, pizza, pasta and hummus.

-His current favorite books are: Go Dogs Go, Hooper Humperdink Not Him, Hand Hand Finger Thumb (he's really enjoying Dr Seuss right now), Hop on Pop, and The Things You can Think if Only you try.

-He loves Sesame Street and watches it every morning while mama showers. He is a big Elmo fan! He also loves the movie Horton Hear's a Who.

-Caiden can count to 13. One day I said, "Caiden how many legs does this Hippo have?" He started to count them and got to 4 and just kept going. I was shocked he counted straight all the way to 13. I had know idea he could do that.

-Caiden still likes to sign. Some of the things he signs is: more, eat, work, church, cheese, elephant, lion, monkey, rhino, all done, bear, where...there are more but I cant think of them all at the moment. :)

-We have been working on colors with Caiden. Its coming very slowly. Everything to him is red and blue. He will get it one day!

-Loves animals! Some of his favorites are elephants, hippos, monkeys and lions.

-Mr Caiden is a talking machine now! I absolutely love to have conversations with him. He speaks in sentences now. It is so fun! He can really make me laugh by the things that he says. There are only a few words that we can live without him saying they are: No, Mine and dont like. We hear these words many times during the day...can you say terrible two's!

-Within the last few months we have had difficulty getting Caiden to sleep. He goes to bed at 7 and plays in his crib for about an hour before he falls a sleep. Sometimes he will wake up in the middle of the night and stay up for hours...ugh! He is also a early riser and wakes up anywhere between 5:00-6:30. I still have hope that one day he will sleep till 7 consistently.

-He still takes a Binky when he sleeps only. He would prefer to have it all the time. He is really attached. When he turned 18 months we decided he gets it for bed only. He adjusted really well.

Caiden-

You bring so much joy into our lives. There is never a dull moment in our day. It has been such a joy to see you grow and learn these last two years. Everything excites you: the sounds of birds, firetrucks, trains, people, in this current season Christmas lights, and just about anything new to you. Your dad and I love to have conversations with you, its always fun to hear what you have to say. You are always making us laugh. You are a great big brother. Even though you get frustrated that Landon plays with your toys, you still love to help care for him. You love when Landon plays in the fort with you and you love trying to tackle him (even though mommy doesnt like it very much). I am so blessed to be able to stay home and care for you and Landon. We love you so much Bubba! We cant wait to see what this next year brings!

Love you, Mommy and dada!

Snow days!

I am so behind on blogging. I am going to try to get caught up this week. We had some wonderful snow days the week of Thanksgiving. I love the snow! This was the boys first time playing in it, they had a blast! My sister Krystle's school was closed for a few days, so she came and spent those days with the boys and I. We always love when she comes over! :) It was freezing outside so we bundled the boys up in their new snow gear and went outside. Caiden loved to have snow ball fights and Landon loved to be pulled in the sled!

The boy's Uncle Steve took these pictures of the boys. He took so many. These are a few of my favorites. Thanks Steve!

Landon's 1st Birthday!

Landon turned one on November 5th, but we celebrated his birthday on the 13th because we were in Utah for a wedding. We seriously cannot believe that our baby boy is one already! Landon is a bundle of fun! He loves his big brother Caiden and wants to do everything that Caiden does. It is amazing how many things he has learned just by watching Caiden (good and bad) such as, how to bark like a dog, make Elephant sounds, how to jump into pillows, how to throw huge tantrums, and how to get angry when someone takes your toy. Landon's first word was dada (he said it when he was 8 months old) and we are still working on mama. Other words he says are, hi, bye bye, down, done, nigh night, Steve (Steve is his uncle and one day he looked at him and said St), dog, banana, woof woof and he likes to make monkey sounds. I have been trying to get Landon to sign for a long time he finally decided to start at 11 months old. His first sign was milk. Once he turned one he started to sign a lot more. He now signs more, thank you, please, snack, shoe, elephant and food.

We had Landon's 1 year dr appt. here are the stats: weight 23.3 lbs (56%), height 30.75 inches (79%) and head 48.3 cm (93%).

Some facts about Landon:

-He LOVES the bath! You even say the word bath and he starts crawling down the hall. He stops at the bathroom door and starts yelling for us.

-He is not walking yet but is super close. Today, actually, is the most steps he has ever taken! He walked almost the full length of the hall way. I am thinking he will be a full walker in just a few days!

-He loves daddy and runs to him right when he gets home from work.

-He is a super busy boy and loves to explore and get into draws and cupboards. If we accidentally leave a door open to the bedrooms he will immediately go down the hall as fast as he can to try to go in the room. I have found him in our bathroom many times. He really keeps me on my toes! :)

-He is going to be our little climber. He loves to climb into a toddler rocking chair we have. I find him using it as a stool to reach stuff on our book case. He tries to climb up a slide we have all the time.

-His favorite foods are cheese, pasta with tomato sauce and bananas.

-He thinks Caiden is hilarious.

-When we tell him no he sits there and argues with us and eventually he gives up. Its hilarious!

-It takes Landon a while to warm up to people. The only people he will allow to hold him all the time are mama, dada and Nana. He will allow other people to hold him but it takes sometime for him to warm up. I believe he maybe our introvert child. He doesn't like it when we have big get togethers. Hugh and I have to hold him a lot of the time because he wont allow us to put him down.

-He likes Elmo just like his big brother.

-He loves books!

-Caiden came up with the nickname Lay-lo. We all now call him that. I think its cute!

-One of my favorite things that Landon does is blow kisses it is so sweet. When he blows kisses he says muah!

-He loves music. Even if he hears someone humming he stops and starts to dance.

-Loves to be chased.

-One of Landons favorite activities is to dive into a pile of pillows. Him and his brother can do it all day! They love it!

-Landon is a AMAZING sleeper! He sleeps 6:30-7:00 everyday and is still taking 2 naps, each nap being 1 hour+.

-Landon has 8 teeth. 4 on top and 4 on bottom.

-Landon is in 12-18 month clothing and wears a size 5 shoe.

Landon-

We love you so much! You are such a fun sweet little boy. You have not only been a blessing to your daddy and me but to Caiden too. He has so much fun playing with you. Your brother loves to have you chase him and play in the fort under the table with him. We love to watch you two playing it makes us so happy. We have loved seeing you grow and learn this last year and cant wait to see what new things you will be doing this next year! We love you so much buddy! Happy 1st Birthday!

Halloween

For Halloween Caiden was a Lion and Landon was a Monkey. We took them trick or treating in downtown Edmonds with our friends the Arndts. I love trick or treating downtown! They close the streets and all the shops handout goodies to all the kids. Caiden had a great time and thought it was so cool that everyone wanted to give him candy. He would walk up to people and say candy instead of trick or treat! Landon on the other hand didnt enjoy himself as much as Landon. I think all the costumes scared him so he clung to daddy the whole time and would not allow anyone else to hold him. After we trick or treated when took the kids to Starbucks for some hot chocolate.

Caiden saying, "Candy"

Caiden (Lion), Landon (Monkey), Hannah (flower) and Grant (hamburger)

Our wild animals!

This is how Landon looked the whole night. Not happy and stay with daddy!

If you asked Caiden what he was he would say, "LION GRRRRR!"

Get this hat off me!

Pumpkin Carving!

On Tuesday night we put Landon to bed and carved pumpkins with Caiden. This was his first time and I was very excited to carve with him! Caiden doesn't like to get dirty so I wasn't sure how he would feel about putting his hands in the pumpkin but, he dove right in! We all had a great time!

Sorry the pics are not in order. I was not in the mood for messing with blogger tonight.

I am ready!
Dove right in!

The final product.

CHEESE!

Really concentrating.
